Journey to a Holistic Practice
Born in 1953, Queen Afua’s holistic practice started when she was 16 years old. In 1969, she was on the path to becoming an artist. She was enjoying singing and dancing, but she was also sickly. She experienced various ailments, including chronic asthma, emphysema, hay fever, and headaches. She didn’t know how she would get better back then, as her medications were not working.
Her life changed when she went on a week-long retreat, leaving all her medicines at home. She started to feel ill the moment she got off the bus. Her skin got itchy and she experienced shortness of breath. Without her prescription drugs, she turned to lemons, oranges, and grapefruits to get better. She experienced detox for the first time and learned a lot about natural medicine, juice practice, yoga, and medication.
After the retreat, she dedicated her life to teaching people how to understand and utilize the importance of having a healthy lifestyle. She then founded Global Sacred Women Village and co-directed the Smai Tawi Heal Thyself and Know Thyself Afrakan Wellness & Kultural Center with her husband Hru Ankh Ra Semahj. She also visits major cities with her sons, second generation healers Supa Nova Slom (Hip Hop Medicine Man) and Ali Torain (Ali The Great) to share the principles of natural healing.
